Day 72 – 80
We arrived in Oahu and flew to Maui for the last leg of our journey. While we were there, we spent our time at the Grand Wailea hotel.

This is a beautiful property that has the most amazing pool we have ever seen. It features seven waterslides, six waterfalls, a lazy river, caves, and a swim-up bar.

We enjoyed several days poolside, including one day where we rented a cabana! We were big fans of the Grotto bar, where Pat enjoyed watching several NBA Playoff games from the water, including the Cavs losing to the Pacers. We met a few people at the in-water high-tops, including an interesting couple living in San Diego and Vegas. She was a nurse from University of Cincinnati and he was a Brit Air Force Pilot. He is stationed with a US group in order to be the “subject matter expert” for the UK Air Force on the fighter jets the UK buys from Lockheed Martin.

In the past, upon arrival at the Grand Wailea, you received an orchid lei. However, this time, Cheryl was able to create her own lei, which she really enjoyed.

Pat played golf two days – the first on the local public course, Maui Nui, for a warm-up, then played the Gold course at Wailea Golf Club. It was quite beautiful and he started the day with a birdie!

A highlight of our time on Maui was our sunset dinner cruise. It was quite windy when we started from the marina, but the captain placed us “around the tip” to be on the west side of Maui, where it was a bit calmer. The crew passed around lots of canapés, which were delicious, and then we enjoyed our plated dinners on the deck of our catamaran. It was a beautiful sunset despite some cloud cover.

We tried to take ukulele lessons, but no one showed up at the appointed time to give the lesson. Maybe next time …
Other than exercising, we spent most of the time relaxing by the great pools and venturing outside the property for some dinners at neighboring properties.

On our last night, we went to Nick’s Fish Market restaurant at the Fairmount Hotel. We enjoyed our last dinner in a beautiful setting, thinking we may one day return to stay at the Fairmount.
